About Me
Hi everyone! I'm Joshua. I graduated with a psychology degree in summer 2021 during the pandemic, aiming to become a school psychologist. However, after experiencing burnout in my role as a cognitive clinician and struggling with the path to grad school, I realized I needed a career change.
One day, as I was driving home, I noticed an ad on a bus for a cybersecurity boot camp. I was intrigued by this ad because of how hot the topic of cybersecurity was. I was about to enroll in one, but after consulting with friends and mentors, I was skeptical about boot camps. Recognizing the growing importance of cybersecurity, I began researching Information Technology. By chance, I landed a part-time trainee role in an IT department at a school district, and I supplemented this with IT community college courses and industry certifications. Eventually, I secured a full-time IT position at the same school district.
In IT, continuous learning is crucial due to the field's rapid evolution. This can involve certifications, coursework, personal projects, and internships. Shifting careers was challenging, but it was worth it.
I’m writing this blog to guide those considering a career in IT. Despite potential risks and doubts from loved ones, if you believe in yourself and the opportunities IT offers, you can succeed!
